Most Gracious Most Merciful Waiting for a general By Sharique Naeem
In 633 CE, The great Islamic General, Khalid ibn al-Walid (ra) wrote a letter to the Persians, saying: "Become Muslim and be saved. If not, accept protection from us and pay the Jizya. If not, I shall come against you with men who love death as you love to drink wine". Such was the grandeur and pride of the generals of the Islamic armies when the Muslim world was united under the Khilafah. Today, the Muslim world is divided into more than 50 nations. But there is not an iota of doubt in anyone's mind that none among all their armies, rulers or generals can dare make such a bold statement in the face of the 21st century colonial oppressors. This sheer contrast of our present with our past necessitates that we seriously reflect over the cause of decline of the Muslim world. The Nation (22nd March 2006)
