Islamic Caliphate & Sectarianism
By Sharique Naeem
It is a general misconception that Sectarianism stands as an invincible barrier, in the path of unification of Muslim world, under Islamic Caliphate. However, this is not true, because of a number of reasons. The first being, that the majority of Islamic laws in each sect as well as the beliefs of various sects are the same. Secondly, the Islamic Caliphate state, will consider laws that required implementation ie it does not matters to the state whether a person wears a green turban, or a black turban, or prays with his hand folded, or unfolded, as these are matters related to personal choice.Thirdly, In the present scenario, where we are living under the Capitalist system, we can, upon examining our surrounding, see that there isn’t any sectarian problem in general everyday life, for instance when a person goes to a shop, studies in a university or applies for a job or bank loan the respective “sect” doesn’t matters at all; So if the masses can live under this Capitalist system, why would they ever object to any Islamic system, which will deliver far more justice than the present one? Fourthly, in Islamic Caliphate, its not one sect that becomes dominant at the expense of others, in fact the law that is implemented, is based upon the strongest “evidence” behind it. So if one school of thought gives stronger “Evidence” for one thing, than that would be implemented. Moreover, there is no need for eradicating all difference of Opinions. The Various schools of thoughts can function in complete harmony together under an Islamic State. After all diversity in views, is as healthy in human societies as in any other ecosystem of nature. Also, Presently, Sectarianism is often presented as an excuse for not implementing Islamic Laws, However, given the Fact, that the present rulers have not made any initiatives for the implementation of Islamic laws, via a consensus amongst the scholars, goes to show, that this is never part of their agenda. Lastly, at present, the issue of sectarianism, many a times, is also magnified, and exploited by foreign hands, who seek to make Muslims remain weak and divided. We can see such cases in Iraq for example. It is therefore, clear, that an Islamic State, will seek to cater the different schools of thoughts, within Islam, and subsequently bring harmony in the Muslim world.
