In the name of Allah most gracious most merciful, Provide for poor dogs By Sharique Naeem Equitable distribution of economic resources, and social equilibrium, are both essential ingredients for the wellbeing of mankind. For this purpose, many economic theories have been formulated in the Western world. Some of these theories are considered literally "divine" and beyond refutation. However all these theories -as evident by their practical manifestation- miserably fail, when it comes to the uplifting of the weak and poor of the society. Yes, a number of developed nations have built welfare and social programmes. However, the set objective of reasonable and fair distribution of wealth and resources remain still a distant hope. The Socialists have tried and failed, leaving a cataclysm in social and economic balance. The Capitalists, today, with vast amount of wealth at their disposal, are hypocritically engaged in a struggle for equilibrium in socio economic systems of their societies while creating havoc for millions in the third world. Due to this imbalance, we can see that global society is in chaos and there is widespread prevalence of inequality, apathy, manipulation, racial tension, murder and war. And all this is happening in our time, when the Capitalist nations, claim to be at the peak of their glory. It's a tragic irony, that today, only 358 million people are worth the combined income of 45% of the planet's population, and more than 3 billion people live on less than $2 per day. In such a chaotic scenario, the world in general, and the Muslim world in particular, (where the prevalence of this inequality is most noticeable) must look towards the Caliphate system. This is a system in which the Caliph considers even a dog dying of thirst to be his responsibility. The Nation (6th April 2006)
