Greed, graft, grab

  By  Sharique Naeem

Be it a traffic signal, a cafeteria counter, or the dinner table at a wedding, our people display an indecent haste that is embarrassing. Perhaps the reason, why our people are getting so impatient in everyday lives is because the state machinery is continually being used to propagate impatience with one's present lot. In the name of PDF(Punjab Development Fund), the people are being lured into gambling, getting rich overnight by merely buying a cheap ticket. The education, is predominately material, with students made to think and worry only about their careers and salaries. The focus of education, should have been, on producing better human beings, who are able to connect their worldly affairs with ethics and high morals. But that is not so. The politicians, since long, have been playing with the desires and wishes of the people, with the result, that whatever little hope, and patience was left, has been drained out. In the eyes of many, if the rulers are free to disobey the laws, then they too must enjoy the same privileges. Ethics, patience and morality etc, are the values that have to be cultivated among the masses, and propagated on the state level. Instead, our rulers preach greed, graft and grab and so an indecent haste has become our national character.
