Ummah first

The Nation (30th Jan 2006)

On the pretext of "Pakistan First", the government would rather have us believe that the atrocities committed in Afghanistan and Iraq by Western imperialists did not have anything remotely to do with our lives and our existence.

This nationalistic notion of 'self interest above all' propagated by the self proclaimed priests of 'Enlightened Moderation' is fundamentally flawed, as it seeks to safeguard one's own interests, at the expense of the others'. Having witnessed the recent carnage of innocent lives in Peshawar, I wonder, what the advocates of 'Pakistan first' have to say now that our own citizens in Bajaur have become targets of the mad colonial rampage of USA?

If even atrocities on our own soil are not going to awaken us from our deep slumber, than I wonder what else will. For safeguarding the Ummah, it is vital for us, to pursue 'collective interests' of the Muslims, which only lies in the revival of an Islamic State, i.e. Khilafah, a state based on the Islamic principles of brotherhood, mutual care and sacrifice. We should adopt interest of the Ummah as our creed rather than the self-centered approach of 'Pakistan first'.
