The basis of democracy

On December 29, 2005, in the LUMS convocation, President General Pervez Musharraf said, “Devolution, the basis of democracy did not exist in the country. The main issue of democracy is freedom of expression and empowering people, especially women, minorities, peasants and workers.” As a humble suggestion to the self-proclaimed enlightened moderate government, I would like to say how about giving freedom of expression and allowing open debate on issues like operations in Wana and Balochistan, and lifting the ban on peaceful political parties.
